Ah, took a look at the movies on a friend's PC. Looks to me like dynamic lightmaps... every triangle of every mesh has it's own unique UV space, and the scene is rendered every frame into a set of lightmaps. Multiple space groups for the spine torso/head. So I don't have to counter animate anything. Ik stretchy legs or some form of knee correction control so I'm not fighting Ithe IK.
