graphic engines are supposed to use environment mapping and specular highlighting to simulate reflections until ray-tracing with huge numbers of subpixels becomes feasible. it appears that the Source Engine only uses environment mapping and not specular highlighting except in the latest Source Engine versions which almost…

So interesting, the presenter in that master class video on lighting didn't say they use UE4 to generate the lightmaps, he said that he uses the engine to "Pack" the lightmaps. I wonder if this means that they actually manually create the unwrap in a 3D package and then re-pack the lightmaps with the engine or if they…

/agree with Brian - Best stuff only, no WIP (but breakdowns are fine and good) - only real-time engines (game engines are best, because it shows that you are also familiar with the implementation and set-up process in this engine) - You want to get into games? So only game relevant pieces Otherwise what the video says. :)
Roboblitz is also using an older engine, so if you really want to keep upto date as far as retail goes, Unreal Tournament 3 has the newest engine to mod from. Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway also shares a newer engine as well as a few others that may have the modding tools available.
Currently involved with the Rome: Total War engine for a mod. It's pretty simple to use, but has some serious limitations (obviously). I also mod the GTA: San Andreas engine, HL2, Operation Flashpoint/VBS1, IL2/Pacific Fighters and the Lock On: Modern Air Combat engines. They are all pretty good in their own right.
