[ QUOTE ] food for thought: when a school says "90% employment rate of graduates" they don't mean in the field, just that you have a job. [/ QUOTE ] Just to give exception to that quote. When Guildhall at SMU talks about 96% placement rate of graduates they ARE talking about placement in the game industry.
@MikeKhine Thank you very much; you have solved all my doubts perfectly. It is impressive that this is your first interior; you have achieved a very nice result. I had indeed considered this solution; thank you very much for reaffirming it. I wanted to make sure to see what people's general workflow is when using modeling…
I'm moving your Topic from General Discussion to Technical Talk. There's a Sticky in the latter section that will help you with highpoly modeling: How The F*#% Do I Model This? - Reply for help with specific shapes - (Post attempt before asking) There are also a bunch of Topics on normal mapping in the Sticky: Long-Running…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffNaGxlFDQQ Today's Jimquisition talks about how game studios have their artists look at real (and traumatic) violent imagery for no real good reason." Figured some artists here might have some strong opinions on the topic, this seems to be an important topic that rarely get talked about.
Hello everybody. I don't think this was posted here. Very interesting talk. I have never looked at games from this point of view. It looks like a great idea. Very optimistic.( perhaps too much) It is about 20 min long. I would love to hear what you guys think.. :)…

Many aspects of baking from high to low have been shared, please see the threads listed here: https://polycount.com/discussion/163872/long-running-technical-talk-threads
Have you got a link to something you want to make? Are you talking about cartoony style or are you talking about items just being destroyed and not aligned how they should be. Always make the parts separate and than attach them later. Don't try and make it all in one piece.
When one talks about poly limit, it usually means triangles and not quads. Due to the math involved any geometry is converted to triangles anyway, be it quads, n-gons etc... So while technically 2 triangles are 2 polygons, it isn't relevant when talking about 3d geometry and polycount.
i feel if you physically cant use your hand, and its not just a preference of doing it with one hand, your school would let you install extra software (helper software. probably not maya. lol) if you talked to them. talk to your program head about it. if they dont, they are assholes....
