No, it doesn't need actual geometry . Zbrush 2,5d canvas doesn't work with actual geometry too . Same with Nuke or Fusion, Just depth values of pixels and a few blending modes . It could be done even in Photoshop. Although it would require so messy and huge stack of layers and clipping groups in Photoshop that it makes it… -

max snaps are terrible. sometimes it seems like it snapped properly but on closer inspection the placement is off. also you have to make sure you have the right snaps on. I get weird results if I have 2d or 2.5d snaps in perspective, and if 3d snaps is turned on and I'm in orthos I get weird results at times. -

That's not a bug, though. While confusing it is how it's intended to be. A tool is essentially your model, but we have to keep in mind that ZBrush is really not just a sculpt app, but a digital 2.5D illustration app. So when you do Ctrl+S it wants you to save the document, i.e. the canvas on which your digital illustration… -
[FILLED] Low-poly modeler + texture artist
For a 2.5D side-scroller beat'em-up game set in an industrial bio-punk Tokyo. That's awesome. Very good high poly approach. I do something similar but in 2.5d. Also, regarding your stretching issues early on in the sculpt, try using zbrushes "dynamesh". It will fix those issues. Have you considered using polypaint instead of mudbox? Polypaint would give you more realistic results. -

thank you Jvalencia, i really don't think it's some of the best stuff here, there's too much talented people way waaaay better than i'll ever be, i'm glad you like it though. About the colors, it depends, but most of the time it's compositing of differents render from ZB, of elements assembled in 2.5D, polypainted or not. -
