A bit of sculpting so I could bake a normal map, and the result. In the second picture, each "brick" is an inset quad (10 tris) since just putting it on a plane looked very flat. All models in the second image were made by me.
Thanks, I'll give it another try tomorrow. Guess I made it difficult on my self with the extra bricks attached to the edge peace. Will certainly let you know how it turns out. Thank you so much for helping out. Thanks.
Salut Dragonar :P I like the one on the left better because it looks way warmer, especially the wood. Im curious how the diorama looks when you have the bricks in the background finished, will look a lot more finished then. Keep it up! :)
Btw, if you're using a static mesh with several material applied. you can right-click on an instance of that mesh and go: Materials -> NAMEOFMATERIAL -> Assign from assetbrowser. For example: if you want to switch out your concrete on a building for bricks but keep the rest.
good start! I thought more bevels on the bricks would be better, and make the lines vary in thickness. And also mix with dark and light color, different color tones and hues. Here is a good example https://www.pinterest.com/pin/AXO0A7y4dxc9ktfLB-SirUeVDRqF1acLlbomtKbn-U1vEgrYQRe95Wc/
the dumpster is pretty rocking but I'd really consider doing the bricks over again as at the moment they all look outlined in black and maybe work on the diffuse as it looks like smoothed out mud. The floor too looks rather wooden, like a cork texture.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Momentum But you are right, it is a matter of taste to a certain extent. I am used to an extremly light hardcore gaming mouse (but I still suck, damn it's the sk1lls not the hardware) and those wireless mice feel like bricks to me.
I feel your pain. apparently mental ray doesn't handle mirrored uvs very well (at all) when dealing with normal maps.. is the dodgy side of the brick wall using mirrired uvs? what happens if you flip them and rebake?
Hey Steve, this is a good start. The AO will help. Adding a grime layer on the bricks will help also. It looks like the chamfer you already have on the sidewalk just need to be a bit wider. The iron bars can be an alpha in a frame. Keep going man!
Hey all, I'm just looking for some feedback/constructive criticism on a portfolio piece. I'm using modo/ue4/substance. I know one thing I can definitely improve on is the brick material - it could stand to be a little more weathered and dirty. Perhaps some graffiti.
