Thanks so much for explaining all this stuff greasley. Those numbers boggle my mind, for something like that creature with 19,500 8k textures, are they actually able to display the whole model within mari with all the textures applied? I use Mari myself a lot nowadays, but I just can't imagine working with so many…
Hey Morgan, awesome stuff here!!! I had a thought on the pentagram showing up, adding pieces of light coming up from the pentagram would sell it to look more evil :) you could easily do it with a few single sided meshes. another idea, maybe having a few streamers flowing out of the hole as the creatures are escaping.
Augh... I just noticed that the confusing information on the original internship post was actually edited. Instead of initially, when it mentioned both 7,500 tris and 5,000 tris as the limit, now it only states 7,500 tris. (I always thought creatures were less polys than characters.) Is this a big problem? If so I'll have…
There is a reason why Disney animators practice life drawing on a regular basis, because you need to know how the real thing looks before you are able to consciously make adjustments. If you take the design of most fantasy or alien creatures you will notice that they follow human anatomical structure very closely, that's…
During the process I found I wasn't completely satisfied with the overall look of the armor in the original concept. I was also inspired after doing some research into Tlingit slat armor http://alaska.si.edu/record.asp?id=261. I also thought that the fur-lined underclothes would be kind of redundant on such a hairy…
I went for the drooling prompt! The idea was to do a run cycle for the creature with its tongue drooling out while hunting something down. Not sure about the execution as the tongue is a little hard to see. Going to put more planning into next weeks challenge, looking forward to seeing everyone's stuff! Twitter…

Its all fine and good But : -to my knowledge horns grow on frontal bone [frontal eminence ?] -he has big jaw but wont be able to open it due to the way its designed -or close it as creatures with big jaws have massive temporal muscles and your thing doesn't have space for such or way to connect it to the jaw itself…
A fully realised midieval fantasy world that is alive with people living lives and monsters that lives lives too. A very brite and colorfull world of weird and unknown creatures that look alomost fimiliar but just a little off. Everything would feel just a little off. Big vistas that look over picturesk towns and citys.…
it's looking very cool wes. veerryyy cool. my only concern is if this style of material you're making here will be cohesive with the styles of the character that will ride this creature. Will their armor have intricate and organic markings like those of the saddle they ride? good work, I say let the normal map do the work…
