A blockout mesh to establish proportions/forms/etc, which can then be refined. It's a way of getting everything in place quickly and means not a lot of rework has to be done if the block out/concept changes before being further refined.

Yes, I certainly agree that it's always great to know several ways of doing things but, this is also procedural/non-destructive as the spline path/instanced fence sections can be changed at any time and quickly updated in UE.
Today i quickly made a "zweihander" just as an exercise. The entire thing was done within 20 minutes, while not my most detailed model, my fast method can be very useful for time sensitive tasks.
