Software questions go to this forum. Do you have a mouse with a Tilt Wheel? They always produce a delay in 3ds Max. Use the Arc Rotate Sub Object button at the bottom right of the UI and see if left clicking rotating works. Did you enable Maya navigation?

Haven't tried updating any chipset drivers, will look into that tonight. I tried installing using both of my dvd drives, both got the CRC error. One's a Samsung DVD-R, the other's a Plextor DVD-RW. No ATI, Nvidia geforce 7800 gtx 256mb.
An yeah, i forgot to say one thing. It feels kinda deserted. Maybe if you out in some physics in the scene, like wind blowing in the grass, and maybe some ambient city sounds. Hell, you can record the sound from the exact spot irl? :P
the limit is actually per material, IIRC, its been a while since i've messed with q3 stuff but if you can simply seperate your mesh into say 10 different materials, you could do a 10,000 poly model in thoery. [edit] 10,000 vertex model
I think this is a classic case of putting the cart before the horse. Also, people on here aren't telling you this is a bad idea, and that your portfolio isn't ready to try and hurt your feelings; they're doing it to help you and protect you from getting hurt IRL.
Hey Mop on a related note - iirc the 3dsmax bakes work perfectly in UE3 since the Epic pipeline revolves around the app. So that's a combo to keep in mind. However ... some UT3 props suffer from normalmap mirroring issues. So maybe it's all related in the end?
Maya also comes with the CgFX Shader Plugin out of the box, iirc. You should just have to load it up in the Plugins-Manager - it's called "cgfxShader.mll" - the new Material Type will then show up in the Material Editor. Maybe you can get those .fx files to work with that .
