They are defining the flow of edges. You don't have quads, you have one huge multi-sided ngon. More than likely the flow of hidden edges is pretty chaotic you might want to define/create visible edges that stick to quads or make sure to flip the hidden edges around so they form tri strips.
so the bake in max came out correct? I'm talking about the edges you set there. As max works always with triangles changing the visible edges there will change the triangulation. Have you change the edges where the error occurred and tried again? It's obvious that the error occurs along two visible edges
thanks for the comments guys and yes mazz thats what im working on now. and as far as the beveling do you mean the edges of the high poly or beveling some of the low poly edges??? i can adjust the control edges on the high to give it an overall more rounded edge if needed. thanks guys
It's that time of the year again! Show us your fabulous eggs. Here's mine. I tried painting the polycount logo but it didn't turn out that great :poly142:
Well, overall this topic is really quite complicated ... mostly because there is just so much partial (and sometimes straight up incorrect) information out there. Now in your particular case here the Maya shading (according to the default Maya shading calculation, which is *not* standard compared to other apps, as Maya…
edge split modifier, it allows you to have hard and soft edges in blender, throw the modifer on the stack, check off marked edges and uncheck angle. Than start makeing edges selections and hitting control+e and selecting mark sharp. or us a script to marke all your UV seams as sharp.
I like it the way it is. Nobody said it was supposed to be 100% realistic. Could use a few more hard/dark edges in the texture however. (E.G. where the lips meet, in case the mouth can't be opened.) But then again it's not finished yet, anyways.
Hey, thanks for the advice. What do you mean by "Let zbrush/dynamesh polish handle the smaller stuff (edge bevelling)"? You mean polish crisp edges to create the beveling I'm looking for? Should I use a mask for only that specific edge then polish crisp edges like crazy until its a bevel? Thanks.
Super useful comments guys :) With "" connect "" I was referring to adding edge loops between 2 edges by selecting the 2 edges and typing in how much connections/ edges you want. I would try out all your suggestions and give feedback if it wasn't for me just hurting my lower back when biking /cry.
I was referring to his comment that his edges are not chamfered but instead he just added edge loops, which gives him all 90degree edges. Maybe I just misunderstand, or am not clear enough, but to me it appears he will have lots of edge errors when he bakes this, besides the hole in the top he wants to cap
