If it's just for a scene with very limited scope, just a pretty shot, it is probably fine to leave it as one giant piece if that works best for your workflow. If you're setting the building in the larger scope of a game world, you might not want something that large in the scene. You might want to be able to hide pieces of…
Hey all. Ok so I'm logging off for tonight and it seems I'm going to be away from ym computer the whole weekend! :( I'll stick close to a sketchpad while I'm away at my gf's and will hopefully get some kind of design plans drawn down. It would be nice to know what I'm modelling rather than making it up as I go along lol!…
My crits: -Your highpoly models seem unclean (fire hydrant), e.g. a lot of triangles and not as much quads as possible. Also the edge flow doesn't look very smooth. -The texture of the fire hydrant looks blant, i almost thought it was an untextured model with just grey material aplied. Maybe this color was on your…
Depth shouldn't be an issue with hard surface stuff. Its easy to convert your photoshop details into a simple height map and then use nDo2 or Knald to convert into a normal overlay. Like I said metal is not defined by its diffuse map, but you are painting all these details into it. Also scratches are going to have a higher…
wow lots of replies! I remember back when people thought EQ2 or FFXI would win over WoW. Truth is EQ2 had a higher polycount and used bump and spec maps, but they made everything look like fake plastic logs. The art direction was horrible and the concept design quite bland. FFXI had some neat designs, but was still rather…
[ QUOTE ] /me hands Sony a shovel. [/ QUOTE ] What good is that going to do them? They're already trying to dig themselves out of a hole... what they really need is a very tall ladder. After reading this thread, it's funny to see such a drastic change in opinion. I remember about a year ago when the Nintendo "Revolution"…
[ QUOTE ] that's not much arsh, some characters i know are like 42 billion tris, they probably look a few billion times better too [/ QUOTE ] hahahaha, your right!!! i have noticed that for each polygon added the model becomes one more factor of awesome! but i was hoping the dom war might be a nice break from work, it…
my older PC had a bout same specs as yours, just a bit worse (no 8x AGP and less RAM), still a GeForce6600 GT did work well for it. Similar as Ryan I'd suggest the system is still good enough and can be upgraded relatively cheaply. We live in days where lots of people have insane surplus of hardware capability, and unless…
Hey guys...thanks again for all the great comments and crits. There is many things I would do different if I were to do this scene again, but it was a great test to see how far I could push Zbrush to make an environment for Unreal. About my specular technique, I basically used my polypaint bakes from zbrush, then hand…
[ QUOTE ] It isn't "Buy a Mac because __ ____" it's "Don't buy a PC because ____ ____". [/ QUOTE ] This isn't new, though. Apple has been casting their platform's virtues against some seriously biased Win/PC arguments for years. I remember when the titanium laptops first were announced at one of the MacWorld shows, the ad…
