What this guy said! Well pretty much, I think there is a lot of visual noise from the ZB noise generator, which is masking a lot of the hard work you have put into the sculpts. I would tone this down in the Normal and let the diffuse and spec pop them details. The gif is a great interpretation of how the moss should form… -

How exactly are you going to draw frame by frame? Or predict character moment? I could very easily do what paperman did in sprites for a RPG Maker game, but at that point, would it be even worth it? Animated UV's are pretty easy to do: Turn on auto key, move the time slider 24-30frames, open the uvw editor move the UV's around, scrub the bar. OOoooo I think I know what is going on. Was your Biped originally moving forward, like you used footsteps to animate a walk cycle but need the biped to stay in place? In place mode is a way to treat a character like they are moving forward but without them actually moving. Think of in place mode as a way to move the world… -
