I would also remove them, why should you keep them if nobody ever sees them? It's always good to remove unneeded parts to save performance on other locations where you can't that easily delete unneeded parts. Sure but, other than complete and blend, there are many more Map Types that basically make the option to do so obsolete, other than combining the results into one map for you. regarding removing certain maps, why not just remove them from the actual material in the editor, and where? i don't see any options to customize… -

I usually remove the middle seam once I have finished deciding what's stays mirrored and what not. if the part wher the seam down the middle is not supposed to be mirrored make sure you un mirror that section of the uvs. essentially you have to flip tem back into place and weld them together in the unwrap window.
