There's a lot more you can do than just and AO bake, you can also bake a cavity map, and edge highlights. Dota2 also uses different bakes to add texture detail http://media.steampowered.com/apps/dota2/workshop/Dota2CharacterTextureGuide.pdf Focus of medium sized details, don't worry about doing mircodetails that wont show…
Is there are reason you specifically working with such low polys and texture sizes? DOTA2's characters have higher tri counts and higher texture res. If you limit yourself too much you'll never be able to get the detail that they do, simply because you are limiting yourself so much.. Here's the DOTA 2 character creation…
Hi, yes! Those parts do indeed look sloppy. I should go touch 'em up. Alright, so this guy is a reimagining of a video game (Dota2) character called Void. My friend drew the concept art but gave me free reign over whatever changes I wanted. He's supposed to be almost entirely alien, hence the strange proportions and things…
Hey, nice start. I found this article from Valve really helpful, especially if you are working on something in this style/from this camera angle. http://media.steampowered.com/apps/dota2/workshop/Dota2CharacterArtGuide.pdf
Awesome stuff in here! I love that dota2 animations! =D Keep up the great work! I'd love to see more! (someday I also want to learn rigging and animation... someday...)
Also be sure to decompile the Jugg mesh and bones. The version downloadable from the requirements page is out of date and sized smaller, which will lead to a gap between the head/body when compiled in Dota2.
In the latest builds of Substance Painter, the template has been updated to reflect these changes already, so you should have separate maps at export time if you use the provided Dota2 shader.
Theres a documentary around the first Dota2 International https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjZYMI1zB9s And there is also some Shorts Valve did for some CS:GO Players https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8Y4qxND0u0
ahh ok, im pretty sure the tax info is shared from Workshop to workshop by Valve. I already filled it out for Dota2 so I don't see the notification. thanks though
