Good job on finishing your first character. I think you should tweak the overall luminance of the final render. Looks kind of grey/dull to me. You're missing lot's in the upper 40% of the luminance spectrum. I'd also consider re-lighting it. It has kind of uniform and flat lighting. I'm not convinced those dark shadowed… -

Does your maya have the Mentalray "Lume" shaders? There is one Lens shader in Max called "Wrap Around (Lume)", it creates a spherical map, where the center of the sphere is the position of your scene camera. Nice thing to save these as HDRI ;) -

Desaturation really helps reduce the lushness of the scene, however, it raises another issue, and this is a good thing.
