AAA projects imho never uses premade assets. That's why they are AAA. But everybody else in fact does these days. That's why there is an asset store for Unity or Unreal. In the end it's allowed what works. So simply try it out. If it fits to your needs, stick with it. If not, search for replacement. -

my .02's incoming. When working on items, they aren't already packed into the uv space before you move onto the next one? Since you are making packs. Why not keep them separated items separated & when you are ready to pack multiple items together in an atlas then also provide the atlas versions? or variations of atlas… -

It's best to put enough polys in to a character so that it does not look low poly/chunky. why make extra polys where they are not needed?
