For me I can't use Maya without Nex. I take it for granted most of the time and forget how naked Maya is without it, I don't regret it. But then again it might get bought and rolled into Maya 2011, since that's what Autodesk seems to really like doing and they did it with polyboost.
I haven't written a MEL before but from autodesk doc it suggests in order for Maya to learn the global in MEL you need to source it. (It also explains why you need to re-source it manually when you change the file) Just a guess. EDIT: This doc explains it in more details.
I am currently using Autodesk Maya 2013 for my modeling program. Also I have been using the RoadKill Plugin to unwrap my UVs and you suggested that I use a displacement map or Alpha Map for my chains, blades on the chainsaw, and perhaps my spokes on the bike?
Autodesk also shipped some sample motion captures files with 2011 I think, it might have been available through subscription but is probably floating around somewhere. Biped also has the motion mixer which is great at blending different animations and even different animations on different parts.
I'd like a version of Kinetic for my PC so I can do keyboard shortcuts with hand gestures. Cut, slice your hand. Bridge, pinch your fingers. Someone get on that, so autodesk can get rid of this: It could even be used like a signing to text for the deaf.
Well this is interesting, unless Autodesk has since added the feature, Max lacks the same creasing tool. Up till now I just assumed there was something wrong with the crease tool in general and that's why Max users avoided it. Very happy to learn that's not the case and I was avoiding the tool for no reason.
move, scultpt the button afterwards... you only have to klick on it to work on... its impossible to sculpt two objects with "one" stroke... but its working if you make a break... if you need these feature.... use the suggest button in the help menue... autodesk is tracking all these suggs..! help --> suggest a feature
I was using the .obj export/importer that comes with Max, silly me. That is until you pointed me to Guruware. It works pretty well and the presets are nice addition also. Thanks for the link! Now Autodesk just needs to hire that guy to fix the conversion from E-poly to E-Mesh.
Change the "Group" (not category) to Unwrap UVW. Yea, don't ask what the difference is, I'm pretty sure Autodesk doesn't even know. Considering the new graphite modeling tools are in 4 different places you would think they would know how to use their own organizational system by now.
I seem to recall testing the auto-reload feature with obj files as well, I think it should work. As for FBX I don't really know the version scheme, but we are using the most recent version of the SDK provided by autodesk, so just about any version should work.
