The hierarchy shows they're still connected. You're just missing visible connectors, which don't matter IIRC. Have you tried exporting yet? -

Re: xnormal/bake probs
To get the xNormal baked map to look correct in Blender you would have to flip the red and green channels as it uses X- Y- Z+ IIRC. -

The Tzeentch eye decoration radiating outwards on the blade is what he means. I think it looks ok, but you'd probably want to add the iris to the eye. -

CAT comes with 3ds Max 2010 IIRC, and it has tons of pre-built rigs for various bipeds, quadrupeds, etc. Pretty easy to animate with too. -
Re: Cars - Its better than you think it'll be.
I read a couple of reviews and apparently although it's not as good as, say, Monsters Inc. or The Incredibles, it's still well presented and enjoyable, even if the story is a tad lacking. -
