IIRC Cycles uses your render sample settings for baking too, so increasing samples should lead to smoother AO. -

So you must be on a non-US keyboard. Try shift with ',' or '.' or ':' and so on. It's hidden somewhere. Iirc shift-braketting appeared with PS7...
