I've actually found that 3ds Max seems to have larger issues with 200 objects at X triangles total than 1 object at X+ triangles. Something else that is useful for scene management (particularly high poly bake and builds) is making sure that imported sculpts are editable mesh, not editable poly - for whatever reason… -

since max 2012 or so you cant weld vertices anymore which are not connected in 3d as well. seems like the newer max version dont allow uv islands without true outline anymore. try create a plane with 2 segemnts x and 2 segments y now do a symetrical split of 2 uv segements (2 y or 2 x) and mirrow them and lay on top of the… -

Someone mentioned earlier about game clones. I do agree with that but I don't see it stopping any time soon. I'm at a mobile game studio right now and basically every decision we make has to be based on "Did X game do it and did X game make lots of money?"
