Usually you get some sort of brief that tells you what they expect from you. I've done tests where the whole environment is supposed to be finished, and others where I was specifically told to leave some things in a greybox state and finish others. Just be mindful for what they are looking for, and if its unclear, ask.
Hey, guys. Just started working on the greybox for the "Copper Air" concept. Made some very rough meshes to lay the foundation and gauge what pieces I'll be using the most. For the lighting I'm torn on sticking with the concept, or going for a sunset vibe. The layout is looking great. I love the idea of connecting it to a…
I created a simple greybox months ago and have slowly been chipping away at it. This environment is inspired by pikmin - the way characters are smaller than the environment but at a minuscule scale. Here is some of the iterations: Paintover and the changes following: (Forgot to keep the shadow layer on so here's what I…
Howdy! I worked on a project similar to this last semester at my school and I'm excited to see where this goes. As it stands, we observers don't have much to look at with just a greybox. Do you have any concept art for the mentioned environments, assets, and/or characters to whet our collective whistle? Best of luck moving…
Yes, it's a good idea to do some lighting in the greybox stage, gotta set the mood and make sure the textures and materials are working well in lighting conditions that are going to be similar to the final lighting setup. Not as important with PBR if you are following the guidelines because most textures/materials should…
Unreal Updates- Established new camera angles Materials - For manhole, I textured it in Painter ran it through Designer instead of modeling it. Felt it was faster to iterate this way once the link is done II just hit export, rerun it through painter then directly UE4. Greyboxes - Did plenty mesh changes in the background…
Interested to see how much the workflow has improved in UE4. Prior this news Unity was the absolute fastest on game iteration time hands down (UDK required you to shut down the program before compiling scripts.. whoever designed that shouldn't work on tools ever again). I hope UE4 gets some better world constructing tools,…
i think my next step will be to input all of my finished pieces into my greybox scene. that way i can see the whole project coming together a bit more. i have the observatory, the smaller buildings, the bridge, and lamp posts done. maybe ill work on the lower structural framing after that. updates coming soon so stay tuned…
Hey All, Got pretty busy the past few days at work. While in the midst of exporting stuff, I got to doodling a really quick sketch of what I'm thinking for the Stone/Sword piece. Gonna start on it tonight. Also I've been thinking about the feedback I've gotten so far, and its really made me re-think where I want to take…
some images from the blockout phase, pretty much done with my basic greybox, I know what assets I need to make and where to focus my time thanks to this. took a few hours but thats time well invested if It helps me to focus the rest of my time on the challenge in the right direction thanks to this. Day 1: day 2: added…
