The West rarely takes risk visually when it comes to AAA or AA games. Seeing big studios coming up with stuff like this is a sour dream. I mean there's still the indies but they're mostly limited to full 2D...
hrm....I was kinda feeling games have come a little further in the last 10 years regarding voiceover talent and AAA quality releases. :) (but who knows...maybe that's what Square thinks is 'kewl' now for their target audience?)
i would associate the PBR word with AAA studios which produce first person shooters, you know industry oily greasy shiny metal things with chipped paint, thats sort of how I've sterotyped that word.
Really cool stuff there plus I'm of the same sentiment, you seriously have to consider leveraging existing art showcase platforms that'll potentially attract AAA class eyeballs you've of a mind targeting for the next career move.
Congrats :) Great feeling, isn't it? Good thing about shorter projects (shorter compared to those AAA titles that take 3-4 years to make) is the instant gratification you get from completing projects on a regular basis.
ps3 = cheap blu-ray player that also plays games, worst system to develop for which is why there are so few quality games. 360 = big library of AAA games, online service is quick and easy to find friends.
I am a 3D Character and Hard Surface artist with 8+ years of AAA game production experience currently looking to do freelance work. My portfolio is available here: http://visenworks.blogspot.com Send inquiries to: chamadecg@gmail.com Thanks!
My attempt at creating a unique and memorable AAA-looking environment. UE4+SpeedTree. Next, I'll be sculpting an 'Angel of Grief' statue in ZBrush to replace the placeholder and creating some more ground materials and moss in Substance. All feedback is welcome!
"see a hell lot of tutorials for blender, but realised it doesnt help much for industry standards" parroting sheer nonsense. friends and senior artists I know of do work with FOSS on tent pole film and AAA game productions - heed oglu's advice, instead!
If you receive the error message "sorry, cant`t find plugin.. " when trying to bake with Xnormals, in my case was because the texture name had an underscore then a number. I put my texture name"aaa" and it worked afterwards.
