You want to make a high poly, and then go wild with its details, and shaders, and textures, and so on. You dont even have to UV the high poly model if it wont have a texture (say, simple shiny metal material). And it can be made out of any amount of models. Also the wonderful world of downloading games in steam adds the advantage of preloading your game before the release date. I agree, the site design should probably go. The CSS thing took awhile to load, I almost left the page after clicking 3D/2D since nothing happened (it was preloading the images I guess). Simplicity is usually go, you don't want the site to detract from the work. Showing more wireframes/texture sheets would go a bit farther… -

XRef's can be a bit buggy. Pitfall 1) Sometimes they'll stop updating when you update the source model. So its normally best to wait until you're done with an asset before placing it.
