If your issue is topology the better solution is to use ZRemesher to create that topology, Project from the Subtool menu, then keep dividing and reprojecting to get your detail back. With ZRemesher guides and polypaint you can concentrate your polycount where it is most useful.
yeah, it was my intention to make more realistic looking scales, but i had trouble achieving that while using only polypaint. Now that I got down the most of the basic concepts of sculpting, i'll try to focus on learning proper coloring and texturing.
PyrZern Your not suppose to look at the topology ;) Im just working the aesthetics. I polypainted in Zbrush and now painting in photoshop to finish him off. No baking. Rabant Yeh, Ill slowly get around to tightening the textures. Still working on the overall design.
Very solid work and thanks for sharing I know it can be nerve wrecking posting your work sometimes. Future textures in the works? I know Zbrush has polypainting, don't know if your instructor has limits for this project. Nice work.
Take it one step at a time. Sculpt the model how you want it before you start painting it. Forget the shaders until the model is ready. Also, post some references (if there are any), a wireframe from max, and the zbrush sculpt (without polypaint info).
O.K. looks like the high poly is done, on to the polypaint next. I'm still keeping the gas mask as an alternate, but I prefer his actual head now I think. *EDIT* worked more on the shorts, and added some interest to the right leg

Started on the texturing today, its all polypaint, with the spray tool in zbrush,with a alpha, I have to say I never know how useful that spray tool could be. Always happy for any tips out there. My blog http://patrick-cashfiresartwork.blogspot.com/
Hi, the texture density on the cactus is not equalized. Add a checkermap texture to your model and you will see what I am talking about. If you worrying about the seams, then i can recommend to use something like bodypaint3d or zbrush's polypaint/spotlight.
Didn't like how sharp the edges were, so I had to smooth them out a bit. Added some game res hair, a jumpsuit, finished the legs and added a quick polypaint. Still a bit more to do. C&C welcome!
