As Oglu says, it does depend on the job. That being said, I've seen a lot of students struggle to get jobs because they've spread themselves too thin. I've never seen a student struggle to find work because they focused too narrowly. -

Well, some companies seem to only offer academic internship. While some other offer 'cheaper alternative to hiring' internship. The latter should not care if you're a student currently or not. ArenaNet internship, for instance, doesn't care if you're a student currently or not. -
