I've updated the Hybrid keymap with some fixes for Grease Pencil, should now work correctly out of the box (download from same link above). Thanks for catching that one. I hadn't really been using Grease Pencil at all before so had overlooked it during testing.
Not trying to be a smart ass, but are you by chance using pencil, instead of the brush tool? You hold down the mouse button the the brush/pencil icon and drag it over the pop up menu to select the proper tool.

What might be an idea is to use coloured pencils. One of my old teachers told us to use light blue or cyan for building up the general shapes, and then go over that with regular pencil. But really, any colour would do.
Ok last update for today. I decided to go with the boat for this one. I also added some pencils, a pencil cup and a cord for the burner. I am really liking how this is turning out and I can't wait to take this stuff into zbrush and make them look even better. As always C&C's are welcome.
I don't know if you mean that but in the first picture you see the direct specular reflection that is much stronger than the indirect specular in the other pics when the pencil is not directly under the light. Since the light than bounce off the metal part of the pencil have that intensity it produces a stronger reflection…
the smoothing is very nice on sketchbook mobile, almost to a fault (the pencil especially almost acts like lazymouse). Means you can get nice long strokes, but short strokes are just about impossible with the pencil tool. Feels nice, though. There's also a free version to test it out before dropping the 3 bucks on the full…
The only one I know about is grease pencil. There are yt tutes on drawing models with the pencil. But specially that you are interested in hard surface I would use ref images and just standard box modelling. Less snazzy but more controllable.

I'm currently working on a children's book for a client. Weedy (girl with straight hair) is the star. Penelope is her friend. There are nine characters in the story. most of these are adjusted in PS for clarity, since my initial stage is a hard pencil. Colors are watercolor and color pencil.
