Hey guys,
I just finished off a piece of work and now I'm looking for some crits.
Just recently making the switch from Maya to Max this is my first model that was made entirely in Max. Along with that, it was also the first time using high poly meshes and baking the normals. It has been quite the learning experience.
Mad props to Jason L for all the help.
2850 poly, 1k diffuse, spec and normal.
You can't really see the spec in the renders, but I blame my lack of rendering knowledge in Max for that.
Thanks guys!

Yep! A very common mistake.
Really smooth out the metal on the diffuse. Lower your base texture contrast a lot.
Your renders are also pretty poor (no spec.) Try putting it in an engine or using a viewport shader?
Heres an update. Do you think those scratches are a little much?
Filbot - Thanks! I had tried out the model in UT3 in hopes of a nice spec but no dice. I will definitely give this viewport shader a go as soon as I learn how to install it :P. Still a noob to Max. The author, unfortuantely, did not leave any direction as to how to get it installed within the .rar
Vig - thanks
just wanted to show off the final product
Thanks for everyone's input
ps. next project:
