I love the concept of gauss guns. I'm going to make Cheyenne Tactical Sniper rifle modified to be a gauss gun.

Haha Nah, I was refering to magnetic coil guns, very similar to a rail gun.

awesome concept... i love those military sniper rifles. from the looks of your model so far, its on its way...i am by no means a master but it looks a little boxy in some areas...(like that battery thing with the springs on the side) and some edges look like you chamfered a little too much....could use a few more softer edges here n there i think.

I think the gun looks good but I wouldn't have picked up that it was a Gauss Gun without being told.

The rails are not correctly modeled, they should look like this from the front

Also the scope mounts are floating.

Thanks everyone, yeah this is mostly just the base gun, all the modification pieces haven't been added on yet. Thanks for the reference Leviathan! I didn't know those were like that, makes sense now.

Bit more through the Hi-Poly. thank you for the extension! I might finish on time with it.
I've started adding alot of the major modifications. Still have quite a bit more to go.
The device taped onto the side is a geiger counter, I was thinking this weapons setting would be a post nuclear war type scenario.

PS: left handed shooter for detail and cause left handed people are more awesome

Alright coming to a close on the high poly model. Just a slight bit more tweaking and then ill move of to the low and the projection.

I'm sure adhering to the high res silhouette while maintaining legitimate polycount will be pretty tough for this one but I think I can pull it off.

Lets hope so anyway

well the thing taped to the front is a gieger counter so it really doesnt need to be to accurate in direction.
its just for measuring radiation levels.
If it was a laser sight or something then yeah that wouldnt make too much sense to be taped on.

That looks really cool. I dig the tape and hanging wires.
Shame those cylinders around the half-way point of the barrel don't have a more rounded silhouette. Might be worth taking some polys out of the scope or those spark plugs and put them into the cylinders so they don't look really low-poly in silhouette?

Mop - I have a funny feeling the non roundedness of the front bits is intentional because they are the same octagonal shape in the high poly.

damn and i saw it the other way around, the highpoly just has the shape so the lowpoly could use less polies in that area... damn

i'd agree with mop, and would add rounder forms to it, as the octagonal shape is kinda breaking the flow

Yeah i did it on purpose, I kinda wanted to break the flow of everything, i figured it would help them stand out more against the very round base gun. If you guys really think i should go round with them I guess I can... let me know.

i would change it, to me it stood out as something that just looked very "gamey" i guess thats what happens to game artists, if you see something 8 sided IT MUST BE WRONG!!! lol

Dang, sweet. I think the AW50 just dropped a spot in my favorite rifle list.... That looks great, imo. I think my only thing is the wires. They look awesome, but if I were sniping, I'd be afraid of them getting caught somewhere. Eight hours of wandering about a post-apocalyptic city and seeing the geiger counter's been unplugged the whole time would worry me....

Looks like you can shave polies from the base of the pistol grip and scope mounts (which are still not correctly mounted, they're floating). You could also get rid of all those chamfers, but that might mess with the smoothing you had planned. :susp:

I don't understand how the magnets on the clamps could stay on or be as stable if the clamps were round. But I just feel that it gives it more of a homemade look if they were octagonal like that.

Whichever one you choose will look awesome anyway!

Well theres a lot more to be done so I guess I'm throwing in the towel as far as the competition is concerned. Started texturing it to get a feel of how I want to final one to come out.

This project has taught me more about texel distribution for FPV weapons. I'm going to re-unwrap and try again.

Hey, i say post what you've got man. its decent even if its not finished. Whats the worst that will happen, you dont win? You sure wont be winning if you dont even try to enter at all =D So get to it! Just gotta take a couple screenshots/renders whatever and post em.
