LPC #05 - El Z0rR - Posion Zombie (hL2)

I'm working on a poison head crab zombie as seen in HL2. Thats the screaming black things that have a poison head crab on their head and they throw other poison head crabs at you that come off their backs.

Here's my progress on the head. It's 190 tris.

Any C&C is always welcome. Feel free to give me any pointers along the way.

I've started work on the zombie part now. it's 420 tris. so I'm going to have to lower the headcrab part and call it equipment me thinks.

I posed him a little to see if it looks like a poison zombie, once thats ok, it's making the textures better. MoP can I eat your brains?

the head crab looks a bit big. Also werent the poison ones only in groups on the guys back, then he would throw them at u? the head crab sat on head?

could be wrong havent played in a long time

Yep, they normally have 3 or so on their backs, but I'll have to do some poly reducing to be able to meet the requirements.

I think it might be a bit big too, though usually the legs hang more limp which makes it look a bit smaller, So I'll fix that up.

I'm thinking of making like 2 lower res ones on his head/back then one in the air like he's throwing it, but like I said I might have to lower the detail in a few places. ATM it'd be 3x 190 tris for the headcrabs and 420 for the zombie part. AHH!! lol

u could probly get rid of some edges on the crabs sides. but other then that it seems like u optimized very well.

the one on his back counts as a weapon lol

329 for the zombie, 139 for the head head crab, 150 for the back head crab.

still more work to do.

This piece will turn out awesome if you concentrate on pushing the textures at the pixel level.

Doing well, don't be afraid to push the contrast, I find I always start out very timid on the contrasting colors. Then when guys give me a kick in the right direction I start pulling it together. With some serious contrasting reds in there you should be able to come very close to the origional.

Ok here goes, I welded a few random verts and now the zombie with head is 499 and the headcrab on his back is 150.

It's looking pretty awesome. Smart idea to use one headcrab for the character and the other for the weapon, lol.

I think I'll leave it as that. I think the 2 main problems are I built the headcrabs 50 or so tris too many (i had to do some welding) and my texturing skillz aren't great. Practice makes perfect etc.
