When I work I definitely love some ambient music, what artists do you recommend for when you're working?

Lately I've been listening to Last.fm. I just type in a band I know I like, and let it handle the rest. I feel like I've heard every song in my 5,000+ play list so this new system is a be refresher on my music listening.

Ambient/instrumentals for being creative. More melodic, engaging music for just getting the work done. Hardcore/Death metal and gangsta rap when I hate what I'm doing at work.

Edit: Oh yeah, Ebagg, if you were actually asking for some good ambient artist recommendations, I've been checking these ones out lately:

J.Viewz - Very cool ambient psy-trance/break-beat.
Shulman - Probably the most chilled out ambient psy-trance I've ever heard, may put you into a coma, in a good way.

Venetian Snares - Check out the album "Rossz Csillag Alatt Szueletett". Swings between very ambient orchestral scores and intense dnb/break-beat. Sounds crazy but it works really well. (BTW, that glitchy computer part of the music video doesn't occur on the album)

Unearth seems to get my creative juices flowing, sometimes throw on The Warriors, Casey Jones or Evergreen Terrace.
Oh, and Aesop Rock, Bliss N' Eso, Wu-Tang Clan or some NWA if I feel like some hip-hop.

I'm into a lot of tracker music as well. A good compilation is on keygenmusic.com , also 8bitpeoples.

di.fm has some decent streams for goa/psytrance and occasionally DNB that doesn't suck.

depends what mood im in. my favs to work to,not nessarily ambient either include ladytron,metallica (specifically the album with the San fran Orchistra) and some classical stuff,Military bands and of course the fantastic Age of Empires 3 soundtrack.

I tend to stick to stuff with a beat for when I'm working on things though (yes Venetian Snares has a beat, you just have to look a little for it.)

I usually only listen to rock...either 90's or 60s/70s. Currently listening to the entire Led Zeppelin collection...I used to listen to a big playlist on random, but I found myself just skipping a bunch of songs because they were distracting...I find listening to just one band at a time makes it easier for it to fade into the background.

Other things I've been listening to while working - All of Tomahawk but mostly the album "Anonymous" (songs based on old native american songs...kind of chanting just with Mike Patton.) Metallica - S&M and all of Blind Melon

I listen to 3d buzz sometimes or any other tutorial with a voice over that I happen to like or my itunes list which include all kind of crap like Metallica, Bon jovi, Enya, Poison, Guns N Roses, don't laugh too much, Avril Lavigne, Roxette many other pop artist, some country music and lots of 80 rock. My library is currently 8.5 hours. Depending on my mood it can be distracting though so I lower the volume when that happens.
