3DS Max Oddities

Hey guys
Having an issue with 3dsmax and it's driving me insane. Here's a pic of max with the transform dialog and the ram player open:
Now the moment I start working, those windows get cut off where they're on top of the viewports and the part of the viewport they covered stays in the window, like so:
I have an 8800GTS with the latest drivers, also using MAX 8 with SP3.
Anyone else having this prob?

edit: if it doesn't happen to you in open gl mode, then this probably isn't the solution for you. oh well, maybe it will help someone eventually...
