Good movie, it's weird how every potc movie is different from each other. This one isn't as crazy, wacky or random as the second one..but it's got some solid action scenes. I do feel that it's lost some of the focus it had in the first movie and the humour in the second, but it's still a great pirate flick laugh.gif

The whole locker section felt like it could have been cut down considerably, but aside from that it was a very enjoyable movie. A better movie than the second, but not quite as good as the first, I feel.

They did kind of forget about the whole zombie monkey thing somewhere between the second and third movies.

Very enjoyable, kinda surreal in places and very over-the-top and ridiculous in others. But all the way through, enjoyable.

Gotta love Geoffrey Rush hamming it up pirate-style, and Keith Richards was a welcome appearance, they even gave him a guitar! smile.gif

Jackablade: The monkey was only a zombie in the first one 'cos it was part of the Black Pearl crew, and they were all made alive again at the very end of the first movie.

And then after the credits he nabbed a coin and turned back into zombie monkey. He's shown in skeletal form a couple of times in the second and given to the voodoo lady as an "undead monkey". Jack even shoots him to prove it.

Hmm, good point (I forgot much of the second movie, it was a bit slow and convoluted for my liking). Maybe it's still undead, but you never see it in its zombie form because there's never any moonlight in the 3rd movie? Maybe? I mean, they do fire it out of a cannon :|

Actually MoP you made a good point... the crew were uncursed in the first movie, how could the monkey remain cursed in the second movie... :/
I never really think about that before.

I enjoyed it but I felt like it was convoluted; they had too many main characters going at once, and I personally enjoy just having a happy ending in movies like that, and I think getting to see your wife like 3 times before she dies of old age sort of blows :P Don't get me wrong, endings where the bad guy wins or things don't work out the way you want them to have their place, but the ending didn't sit right with me.

felt too much like they thought they could probably get a fourth movie out of the franchise and left a lot of stuff open. jack and barbossa are going after the fountain of youth, will is in charge of the flying dutchman, elizabeth is the pirate king, calypso didn't do shit and davy jones didn't leave a corpse behind, so he's not really dead.

I liked it(better than Pirates 2), but felt it missing in many areas.

Maybe the overwhelming presence of the first movie looms over the crew, but it seems that they are trying to hard to outdo the first instead of making a movie on the same level.

Although I do not feel as strongly about the sequels as this guy(I enjoyed them), this video does sum up what's wrong with the them.

Not sure what you guys didn't see in Pirates 2... it was a big piratey adventure. Nothing more... Was a good cinema adventure IMO.

Anyway - third movie was the worst of the bunch, but was still a great movie.

Thought the 3rd was the better of the three. It was a lot darker, didn't end on much of a happy note, left it open for the 4th but it still concluded to a degree.
I'm not a big fan of the Pirates series, but this one was definitely enjoyable.

I think it might have eclipsed the first, in my mind.

And of course it ends with the captains harrying off in search of treasures. Thats what pirates do, regardless of furthering franchises.

if you like dudes yapping for 2 hours about crap you don't care about and more plot holes than swiss cheese then pirates 3 is a wonderful movie

i felt like the only reason to see this POS is to get an ending to the otherwise awesome 2 movies in this trillogy.

Well technically when she dies he'll have to ferry her soul to the otherside or give her an offer to join the crew like Davey Jones did. Other than that, the ending brought everything back to the original status quo. Jack is without a ship, but has the location of the treasure, Barbosa has Jack's ship but no knowledge of where the treasure is, and the sea is safe for pirates again. But yeah there are still loose ends. Otherwise it was good.

And anyway, its probably better to be the worst of the best, than the worst of the worst...it could've been Gigli bad. I just have the feeling that all the extra filler stuff was thrown in because they wanted to show it incase no one signs on for a fourth movie...or a fifth...sixth...whatever.

It's a movie about pirates - I still don't get the negative feelings about it? What were you guys expecting going to a Disney movie about pirates? To have you minds blown in complexity and interesting universe development?

I went expecting a bunch of pirate jokes, explosions, rum and Jack Sparrow...

I had flashbacks of the 300 when the freedom speeches kicked in. I went from "fuk yea wars comin!" to "oh god not again".

hopefully this isnt a trend that will continue before every battle in every movie.

I would not rank this film with the first one. The first Pirates movie was an unexpected surprise with really solid acting and writing. The chemistry in the first film, the constant back-and-forth between the different characters, was near flawless. The pacing in the first film was also far better to the two sequels.

That said, I preferred the third film to the second film. It's true that the "lets fight for freedom" speechs were lame and out-of-place. But it was also clear from the reactions to them that these were pirates, not starry-eyed soldiers. You could scream about freedom all you wanted, but they were still going to be looking out for number one. This cynicism on the part of the "protagonists" (anti-heros) made it far less cheesy or forced than 300. The third movie also went to the trouble of explaining a lot more, leaving the viewer more satisfied than the second film. Also, I feel the third movie pursued its own identity, instead of borrowing from too many other obvious sources, or relying heavily on references to the first film. (as was the case in the second film) I was very pleased that Barbossa was brought back. I enjoyed that character immensely in the first film, and I think he added to the dynamic of the third film.

All in all, I found it very entertaining, and I would recommend it to anyone who has already seen the first two films.

I liked this one. don't remember much of 1st or the 2nd. Very possible that I never saw the 1st. Davy Jones is the shit. Barbosa rocks too. I don't care for the Orlando bloom and keira knightly characters in the least bit.

Yes, those two characters were generic throw-aways. Neither had the conviction to be truly good or truly bad. Most of the real "pirate" characters rocked, because they were unapologetically wicked. Barbossa was a mean, ruthless son-of-a-bitch, and that's the way he liked it. Davey Jones was menace and dread personified, and wouldn't have it any other way. Jack Sparrow was gleefuly random self-indulgence, and if you didn't like it...too bad.

The "main" characters were a badly constructed collection of conflicting cliches. They were easily the weakest elements of the trilogy.

They could have cut the entire Calypso section and it wouldn't have changed the story one bit - apart from cutting 15 minute out of the film. They could have used that more more Pirateness.

To be honest, they could have sliced the entire Pirate Lords section out - underused and underdeveloped. Nice background material, but they were there to thicken the uneeded Calypso section. Keep Chow Yun Fat as a big piratey bastard, drop the other 6 or so that served no purposes in the movie whatsoever.

OK so I finally got around to seeing this movie on my birthday with my lady.

I thought it dragged on for far too long, like some kind of wrong Depp porn, milking him for everything he had.

The second one was far too CG heavy for my liking, although it was far better than this one. Davy Jones Locker was far too logical, I was yearning for more surrealism / abstraction and maybe more time spent there. But no such luck.

Pirates 3's script gets confusing in places, like chow yun fat telling keira knightly that she is Calypso...? what?

I had zero emotion for the characters, keira's speech on the deck near the end was cringe worthy. The film was filled with annoyingly bad cliche jokes, cheap laughs and predictable events.

In all I would say the film was 99% tosh, the only decent 1% was the east india trading ship being blown to bits at the end, when the dude walks down the stairs. I found that remarkably stylish.

I just don't understand why the chick did not just join the crew...then who cares if he can not go back to land but every 10 years. That part drove me nuts. This movie was not as "all over the place" as #2, but was still kinda excessive.

Calypso transformed into crabs and crawl down into the sea. Then Devijones looked up to the sky, see the clouds and said Calypso... ? So she suddenly got up above everyone.

I think it was fun and exciting. I like the part when the 2 ships fight in the whirlpool. The story doesn't make any sense so I'll try not to think about it...

In order to join the crew, she would have to die. Drown at sea. etc. Otherwise she'd have a hard time crewing a ship that occasionally goes underwater. And into the land of the dead.

    my opinion:
1 = awesome cuz of its originality
2 = awesome cuz of its hilarity
3 = awesome cuz of the action sequences

overall, i preferred part 2. 3 felt a bit stretched and "forced funny". like the "im the captain sequence" when that fat pirate butts in: haha its funny... but he didn't need to say the whole "i thought i'd get my name in.. sorry" bit.

the locker wasn't as cool as i was hoping. and the crabs were annoying, but at the end u realise that it was calypso 'helping' jack.

part 4 [if there is one] could just as easily be Jack and Mrs. Swann had 'a good time' so to speak, and that 10 yr old is jack's. Will discovers this, and becomes like the former davey jones...
but then again, that's not 'fairy-tale' happy is it?
