It's still pretty interesting though how it's become this huge scene thing to have a MySpace and from that graph alone it shows how big it actually is.
Sure it's filled with emo kids and some really sketchy perve dudes hitting on 15 year old girls. But if it weren't for MySpace I would never have gone to California 2 years ago, I would have spent last new years home alone, I wouldn't have met my last girlfriend (who is an ex-gf now, but still a great friend), I would have missed out on some really sweet hardcore shows here in Melbourne.
So I think it's you either hate MySpace, or you have a MySpace.

I use myspace exclusively to keep in touch with my friends from ages ago who aren't really computer savvy enough to use an instant messenger ... and let's face it, calling so many people to keep in touch would suck. I much prefer to check in with long lost friends with a few comments here and there then a 30 minute long small talk convo on the phone.

I don't get those social network sites at all.

Yeah sure you can keep in touch with long lost "friends" and other people you know from somewhere. But if those were really friends than you would have personal contact or at least some sort of closer contact, right?
If not, isn't it just a waste of time?

Just because the word porn is searched for less means nothing. Boobs, ass, cock, fucking, etc. + porn = way more searches.

Maybe I'm an idiot, but why would you SEARCH for myspace? It's like doing a search on google for amazon.com. You already know the damn website - type it in!

doing a search means it doesn't clutter up your address bar. i do that all the time. type the name of whatever site i'm going to in firefox's google search and click the link from there. i usually only keep 4 sites in my address bar.

Yeah I agree that searching for it is stupid. Address bar? WTF is that? He meant typing in the URL:

    type "myspace" ctrl-enter.

Wow, that's hard. Much harder than typing "myspace" into google, pressing enter, clicking the first link. smile.gif

i agree with asmuel this is dumb add up all the searches for porn related subjects and i'm sure it swamps myspace. what we find here is the myspace > the word "porn" i've never searched for "porn" you have to be more specific "slathering vagina"

Yes very true, most of the time when im looking for porn over google i use cocks, boobs, ass-fistfuck and midget keywords a whole lot more than just "porn"

Well isnt the point that you dont want ALL your friends to be real close friends right? A social network is a slightly different thing than having "real friends" in my opinion.

Well I think most people here are missing the point. I don't think the article is saying anything about MySpace being bigger than porn, just that those particular search strings have those results.
Sure, 'ass ramming midgets while fist fucking goats' may be a common search some of you do, but somehow I don't see that particular string of words will be used in an article to show the growth of MySpace.
Comparing MySpace to porn was just something that was used to grab people's attention.

Secondly, all this talk about why would anyone search for MySpace instead of just typing the URL in the address bar of the browser. Why would anyone type in porn? I'm sure those of you that regular porn sites, already have your favourites bookmarked and have the URLs tattooed into your mind that you'd never have see the Google search engine to have a week's worth of porn at your disposal.

Keep in mind that searching for "so-and-so's myspace" would likely contribute to those statistics. That's an entirely more reasonable search than just "myspace" all on it's own. Searching for the name of a band isn't necessarily going to bring up their myspace page very easily, for example, whereas "ass ramming midgets" would probably be equally effective (if not more) than "ass ramming midget porn". It's also likely faster to search for a myspace page through Google than to open myspace and then search there, since Google is so nice and streamlined.

And before you ask, of course I know that from looking for midget porn and not just practical experience with Google.

So people looking for porn have less reason to type the word porn, in the end, and that's far too logical and serious a discussion for this thread. We need some cats.
