Spline Tweakers vs Poly Pushers

Basically, how many people out there prefer to do the majority of their modeling via splines and lofts versus just pushin verts around/box modeling? The question is applicable, I think, to both high and low polymodeling techniques, as lofts can be tweaked to have as many or as few edges as you'd like.

Box modelling/edge extrusion for everything else, personally.
pain in the utter arse, but 'manageable' after a while.
The uv mapping ain't much fun though. you have to uv the handles as well:)
