i can't eat airline food, cos like many things, i can only do it if i'm comfortable. Jammed in between a pissed-off business man and a fat tourist, inside a shaky metal tube filled with highly-explosive liquid 30000 feet in the air, and being given far too many fiddly cellophane packets to open in 8 inches of table space does not cut it for me.

I had a Spinach Frittata on a recent flight with Cathay Pacific. It does sound kind of gay but really it was just an omellete with corn, cheese and spinach in it. Pretty good though, I might try make one at home.

Well I work in a Airline servicing company, we fix all the components that can be removed from a plane, fix them and send them back to the airline. We do work lots of different airlines so i wont be naming names.
one of the bits we fix a lot of is the ovens for the planes, they are just nasty, they really would give you the boak! minging filthy things, i dont take a meal when i fly now.

Aren't filthy kitchens common to the food industry as a whole? My friend is a Chef and he's always talking about how he can prepare spoiled meat so the customer won't notice it and he works at a fairly posh country club.

JM - like orwell wrote: the more you pay for a meal, the shittier it is cos of all the jabbing and licked fingers and general nastiness that goes into passing it round all the various cooks and them dicking around with it on a plate. Plus, if they drop a really expensive cut of meat or shellfish or something onto the floor, what do you think they're going to do - chuck it and get a fresh one? No chance. Bang onto the plate with an extra sprig of garnish to cover the bit they slice off.
