Just played the demo six or seven times. Incredible. The time limit doesn't bother me much, but the fact that they don't show any of the mission gameplay is kinda' frustrating.
SupRore I agree, they could have put in one human to escort of something. But they did put in cutscenes that vary depending on which exit of the mall you go out of. That was something they definately didn't have to do. Compared to the Saint's Row demo the loading times are long. I hope the full game is a bit quicker.
What are the different demo endings? I found 5 so far:
1. Time runs out
2. Exit out to the courtyard (guys on jeep)
3. Go into theatre (crazy preacher dude)
4. Go towards entrance? (father & 2 sons with sniper rifles)
5. Enter warehouse door (step on bug)
#5 was my favourite so far - seems to lead the story somewhere....
What a blast it was playing! Most kills I've got is about 300. The shopping cart helps, do laps on the bottom floor killing a bunch in one go.
Definitely not worth a full 60 bucks for an uprezed Xbox game as repetitive as this one. Based on the demo alone I'd gladly pick this up for $30 or maybe more if it had a nice online co-op mode.
Having read the 1up review, I'm a bit dismayed that it lacks the sandbox qualities to it I expected out of it. Having to repeat missions over and over in order to get strong enough to actually beat the game seems silly to me, just as it was in Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter (which the review mentions that many devs from that project worked on DR).
It's a real drag as I was very much looking forward to actually buying a 360 game for once, but I don't know about this one.
****Edit: Frys makes it a little sweeter for those in the Bay Area. $49
Played the demo, but I'm skeptic. Sure, it was fun, dressing up in all kinds of crazy ways, the lego heads, jamming stuff into eyesockets... But how will the sandbox hold itself beyond a demo? The only thing to do is to kill zombies, and in the way of doing this, you're purely limited to the ways the devs intended you to do it. My friends compared it to GTA, since those games are some of the few in which you can actually sandbox. But at least in GTA, you can come up with your own jumps and stunts, beat a variety of different people, and even set people up against eachother. Ok, odd comparison, I know.
Ah, maybe I'm just too cynical, but I'm not too sure yet if it will hold interest long enough. We'll see, though. I've seen some nice secret stuff in the demo, like the Katana, makes exploring worthwile.
I'm not sure my 360 will work I haven't turned it on in months. The last game I played was Tomb Raider. Please Microsoft figure out what you are going to do with the 360, but stop stringing me along with a good game every 6mo. So I can either use it as a boat anchor or maybe, just maybe, use it.
GTA + zombies = what i want. In fact i wanted that so badly i started working on making that very thing... Now we have dead rising so all is well so i have no need to make that game anymore.
I think you might have stumbled on why people will end up with a PS3, 360 and a Wiivolution. Wii and PC games fill in the gaps between PS3/360 big title launches. But until that theory pans out I'll only recomend buying either if you are in the market for a boat anchor... come on gears of war prove me wrong!
this and Resident Evil 5 are my main xbox360 pushers.
around the RE5 launch is when i'll take purchasing into consideration. Dead Rising will probably be a greatest hits by then so yay!
yeah this game is pretty fun... i always forget to save though and die... after playing for like 2-3 hours... kind of annoying, would have been better if they had story checkpoints or something. and it already crashed once, but oh well, it looks really good though, don't know if i like the characters, mostly just the blonde chick's lips aren't doing it for me, but the environments looked really nice and fun.
I just played it for like 5 hours and it totally rocks. There was this one guy I was saving and this zombie chick got him by flooring him, getting him in a 69 and ripping his nuts off. Coolest execution ever! The graphics and animation are totally on point. The only thing that really sucks about it is that unless you have a HDTV reading the mission text and stuff is damb hard.
The game is great, the saving kinda stinks though. But I got on last night and 6 or so people on my friends list were playing this game. I've never seen that before.
I'm on the cusp of finishing off the full game now and I'd recommend it to anyone. A lot of people at work here dislike it strongly because of a number of issues, but the saving doesn't bother me, adds to the tension.
Theres no denying its a punishing game, but its designed for multiple playthroughs because of the 1 save game only limit.
Despite this, when you die , save and quit, you start the game again with your increased stats so the game becomes more and more fun.

They gave it a 8.6, and the screenshots look totally friggin awesome, especially the blonde babe /fap fap fap
I don't think I'll buy an xbox360 any time soon but this is definitely one reason I'll eventually end up buying one
I got Dead Rising today, it rocks.. tho I did get the disc not readable error.. Im going to try clearing the cache whenever I boot it up.. see how that works...so far so good.

I don't know what came over me but I bought a Xbox 360 and Dead Rising yesterday. The game is pretty fun but the the text is so small and blurry I have to sit 3 feet away from the TV to read it. The 360 is hooked up via component to a pretty big tv (but it isn't an HD tv). If the only answer is "buy an HDTV" I'll just have to return them.
Justin, actually it seems that was a screw-up on Capcom's part. They apparently never tested the game for component input. The text for the most part isn't terribly important; you get info on the map for locations anyways. Don't let that one little thing distract you from the rest of the game.
thats very strange. Before the 360 came out I was a tester for pdz, and one of the things we tested constantly for every build was to make sure all text was legible on non-hd screens. Shrug.
It is really distracting, If I'm not sitting 3 feet from the TV I'm just running blind to missions, I have no idea what to suspect, or when I learn a new skill and the tiny blurry text scrolls across the bottom telling you what it is. Too bad html is turned off, I was going to post with <font="-4"> to illustrate my point.
yeah, if you dont have an HD TV, then you're screwed. this game is unplayable for me. and it was the reason I bought a 360. The map thing doesnt help you much when they are trying to tell you what to do when you get there. it sucks.
here is their "offcial" statement regarding the issue.
It's BS.
buy GRAW though Justin. It's pretty sweet. I thuroughly enjoy that game. Also, saints Row is pretty fun so far, basically you're typical GTA but some pretty cool things to do.
I feel your pain though.
I wanted to see how bad the tiny text syndrome was, so I dragged my 360 down the hall and hooked it up to a regular TV. Its pretty bad I don't see how they could have let that slip. hopefully they will patch it =/
yeah. it's really bad. you can still run around and beat up stuff, but that fun only lasts for about an hour. As far as playing the game and doing the missions, no way.
I too have a old ass TV and I certainly understand, the first time I bought a 360 I took it back cause it had component.. and I wasnt going to wait till the next day and buy a Svideo adapter..I did go to sams club the next day and buy it.. plus a Svideo adapter, madcatz.. so cheap.. yay.
Dead rising is hella fun, as far as I can tell, doing that cache clear helped my crash problem.. maybe.. dunno, didnt play terribly long. I'll let ya know.

But alas.
How is this time limited Rick?
Can't wait.

I think we're all going to have to get used to this. PS3 and 360. Games just take longer to make. Especially close to launch.

Yeah, they messed her lips up bad. Not enough top lip, and they left the highlights in.
Scan the character list in the instruction manual and see how many 3d.sk people you can find!
