KLUX - do you know who sculpted it?

I modelled a beastie from a cool maquette photo someone gave me- problem is it doesnt have the artists name on it. So- wrack your brains everyone, who sculpted 'THE KLUX'?

Its a tall purplish humanoid with an organic klux hood as a face, a huge axe and long legs- one massive brown shoulderplate.

aren't you being rather literal in your interpretation? it seems more 'poke fun of' than 'I'm a racist' I reckon taking them seriously is the worst thing to do

I suppose i'm being literal because the design is not a caricature. It's a KKK hooded alien with an executioners axe, and it's does'nt look sarcastic or 'poking fun' in anyway. I would have never thought of the reference to the KKK hood if it was named something else. It's a great design, beautiful detail and all, but I can't really concentrate on the art when it has that history attached to it. Maybe i'm being a bit too PC.

I didn't make the connection until Downsizer commented on it... it's such a badass design, personally after seeing SOOOOO many takes on fictional Nazi super troops, why would a KKK-styled alien be any more offensive?

there's a good chance it was just designed without the KKK in mind, and then noticed that his head resembled a KKK hood, and just figured he'd call it the Klux. Not necessarily meaning Ku Klux Klan, but rather just using it as a name. It's not like it was called the Grand Cyclops or whatever names they have for their leaders.

looks to me that he was more inspired by medieval executioners than KKK. any really...who cares where you got influences for you characters?
youre not a nazi if you model a nazi, and if you ask me, compromising design for the sake of political correctness is a crime.

Alright, let's not turn this into another selfrighteous opinion thread. I think we can all understand why this piece would be controversial, but controversy is a part of art. It doesn't mean the artist is racist--he probably sees the Klan as an embodyment of evil, and used that as inspiration to create an awesome, demonish charater. But at the same time, we should sympathise with those who might be made uneasy by this piece (if I were black, I might give funny looks to someone who had this sitting on their desk). It's art; it's okay to offend people, but it's also okay to be offended.

I think pretty much everyone here can agree that the KKK = BAD, and that just because an artist creates a character inspired by something evil/racist, it does not necessarily mean that the artist is evil/racist.

I was actually refering to the character, not the artist. As i'm not incredibly stupid... i understand artists create things that don't reflect thier opinions sometimes.

I questioned the naming of it, to validate the characters intentions, not the artists. As a game character actually, as was mentioned before. i was asking what game he would be in etc. What role to play. Sorry if i boggled ya.

Homeboy looks more like a demon than an alien. I imagine he is one of Satan's generals or something. I mean, Satan is obviously goind to select the most sick and rotten human beings to lead his armies. Why not a Klansmen?

While I'm sure the KKK reference was intentional with this character, especially given its name. The designer does seem to like elongated forms in general though, which tend to make figures more sinister, check out these silhouettes. So the idea may have been arrived at prior to any association with the KKK, but its something psychological to pick up on and run with.
