A quick salary question

OK I know there are so many factors to consider, but given the choice, would you take a higher salary knowing that future increases may come more slowly for you than your peers, or start with the lower pay and be entitled to the same increases as everybody else?

(Yes this directly concerns me, but I'd like to hear some of your thoughts on it...)

What's to guarantee that there would even BE future increases? Take the money and don't look back.

sounds like more factors into this than just money, but given this factor alone I would say take the higher pay now. It sounds like you will be making about the same ammount down the road it just depends on which road you take, more money now and less over time, or less money now more over time? Something sweeter might come along just about the time the long term plan is panning out and hasn't gotten you anything yet. Or the company could go under...

Thanks guys. This should be filed under salary negotiation 101, and you were right, the increases were described too vaguely to be promising. I've signed for higher pay, now I'm getting ready to bust my ass once I start on the job.
