yeah and she zoomed in on the diffuse when he was pointing at the normal map.. Oh well that instance system they have looks pretty cool, where you can place blocks and then alter the stuff within the blocks. Looks really easy to create natural uneven surfaces

Hopefully Epic will do another Unreal University again at North Carolina State University. They had workshops on learning how to make mods for unreal.

didnt really want to start a new thread and seeing as this one is on the same game i thought i would bring this up. For those who havnt seen the new screenshots posted recently you can see them over at IGN what i wanted to ask was on the third screen the character his very detailed hair does anyone know if thats just nicely placed alpha's or is something more sinister?

it looks like alpha goodness to me. Quite less alphas than you would think too. It looks like they painted the character with a full head of hair (not skin/bald) before applying hair as any good artist would. If you do it right you just need a few planes to give the illusion of hair sticking up in a few spots. You can kind of see one plane/poly sticking off the light side of the models head, its kind of lonely.

Since the engine has had LOD for a few versions. I doubt you would actualy see that level of detail on more than a few characters.

I want to kill that camera person. Plus, is it me or is that show just seem to be made for the dumbest of the dumb?? I wish that we could get things like this that are directed to modders, artists and other people with the actuall know-how to understand much more complex and detailed information...so we know what to expect rather than have to scramble for the info after we have the tools.

man..unreal engine is amazing! it can like ..import stuff..and place stuff and.. who was this aimed for again? for a non-gamer its still mumbojumbo and for a gamer/developer/modder its just stupid.

not that I am the first to point this out...
