not to be dramatic, but witnessing the spectacle last year made me feel dirty and cheapened, and seriously question my involvement in the industry. it was a thoroughly unpleasant affair, a gauntlet to get through in order to see the games.
and it's not like this will really change the vast majority of the booth babes anyhow, there will still be tight clothes and cleavage galore; it just won't be so shamefully overt.
I wish there was a galla event for game developers, where we could all dress in Tuxes and bring our wives for a classy evening, honoring the best in our industry.
I wandered the halls last year and don't remember being offended by the presence of booth babes, or that anyone's models were shockingly unclothed.
This all smacks of letting people with overdeveloped social consciousness run things. Next thing you know, they'll only be selling tofu and salad in the concession stands.
If they want to improve things there, how about putting in more sound baffling and requiring that no one be allowed to put on shows that you can hear outside your booth? I'd be all for that.
Seriously, commercialized mainstream convention = crap. If you want info on games, the big gaming news sites will sift through all the shit for you, and even give you screenshots and videos you can actually keep. Why wade through huge crowds of sweaty nerds and stand in line for hours for a single preview trailer when you can load up 1up.com and browse at your leisure?
The only reasons to actually go to E3 are a)meeting up with friends, and b)booth babes. Hell, you can even see all the booth babes on gaming sites too.
So what has this change done? Now we'll have non-scantily clad booth babes and a lot of people walking around complaining about how they should have less clothes on. Huge improvement.
I doubt they'll just ask for the fine and forget about it, the company will have to remove the boothbabes.

As an observer E3 is one of those things I kinda wnat to go to,but then again I can't be arsed,even if I could afford it.
as has been said the magazines and websites cover the show and the babes and really the only reason id go would be to meet fellow artists and developers,which is soemthing i enjoy doing anyway...and i go to QuakeCon for that

Here here! This conservative resurgence & overly PC trend in this country is pretty sickening to me personally.
Yeah, the girls arent what makes E3 seem cheap & exploitative. Its the entire affair! For an event that is supposed to be for adult professionals IN the industry ONLY, it's surprisingly low-brow & simplistic in premise.
I think things like GDC & its ilk will be the natural higher-IQ successor to E3, until they decay and are themselves replaced by other conferences.

Now that the eye of Jane-Everyday-Soccer-mom is upon the industry I think they (the providers of E3) feel they need to "clean it up". As games go more main stream we'll see more of this kind of crap. The sad thing is to your hardcore fans you look to be selling out or cowing down to public pressure. To the new customers it looks like you are starting to water down your stuff. But to the execs it looks like good PR.
