lowpoly trees in Max

Well, i'm trying to develop some low poly trees. Roughly 100 - 200 faces. But I can't for the life of me figure out how to make flat two sided faces. like so...<br>

That shot from a trial version of NatFX.

Can anyone tell me how to make these bits of geometry? psudo-billboards I guess.. panels? I'm confused.

Could just make a simple plane, or create new polys in any of the view ports, then rotate and move them to where you want them. Then just render 2 sided, or set the material to be 2 sided.

bonza, I was thinking there would be a special shape just for this. Anyway, that works nicely. Is there any way to get both sides to display in maxes perspective view?

either apply a material with the "2-sided" option ticked or go into the proprties of the plane and untick backface cull

Or copy the branches, hit Flip, and weld them together again.

Say when your done there is a nifty lighting trick. Take the normals of your planes and point them all outwards, just like a spheres normals. Most engine lighting systems gives this a nice effect!
