Max crashing when opening a file

I've been working on a project in Max for work and all of the sudden Max keeps crashing when I open the file. I get an assertion error on line 7881 in medit.cpp (although it doesn't say what it's asserting) and then Max closes down. I've tried opening the file on a couple other comps and it works, but it keeps crashing on mine. Any ideas what's wrong? I'm using Max 5.

I tried that before, didn't work, just crashed when everything got in there. But, I just tried removing the CompositeMode plugin, and now it works. I had it in there when I made it, worked for a week, stopped working, remove CompositeMode, and now it works. Funky.

Hmmm. That plugin always worked for me in 5. Install anything new during that time? Max service pack, a freebie script, etc.? Might give a clue.

I don't know if sciAnaComp was ever compiled for 5...

I haven't installed anything since I started working on the project, everything had been installed for at least a month when I started on it, never had any problems. And i've been able to open other files, just not that one. The only thing I can think of is that I worked on and saved the poject on a comp that didn't have the CompositeMode plugin, that maybe when it saved it somehow screwed up the materials that were using that plugin which was causing it to crash somehow.
