ipod's suck

I just plugged my ipod in here on this new work pc. I loaded the software on and it deleted all my music once i plugged in the unit.

It didn't even warn me, how incredibly lame.

All of my back-up mp3's are 2000 miles away in Canada on my PC in storage.

Who wants to buy a 4 month old ipod?

yes they do.

I'm one of the few people that has stayed away from them. Somehow, I have the gift to know things suck and not pay insane prices when there are perfectly good, affordable alternatives right next to them.

Sorry for your loss, you really should have bought a different brand, at the same price, with twice the storage.

Seems like a no brainer to me at least.

winamp + ipod support plugin > itunes. the fact that itunes by default syncs your ipod (with quite possibly an empty folder) just blows my mind.

Until some company comes out with a fairly priced portable audio player that supports a lossless audio format, and until these pay-per-song music download services offer lossless audio, I'm not interested. To me, paying full price for MP3s is like paying for watered-down booze.

I got a 1gb Shuffle from my boss at work as a gift. (He got 1 for all us managers). I use it at the gym, although when I rebooted my PC with it attached....it turns out the Ipods partition is set to active...& bootable.
It totally screwed my config, as my PC was trying to boot from it.

If you were using iTunes, it would have popped up a message saying that the ipod belonged to a different pc, and asks you if you want to make it belong to the current one. I always click no, because if I hit yes, it will delete all of the songs. It sounds like you just hit yes to every pop up message without reading them. It has never not popped up a message about that for me.

I have to do this every time I plug my ipod in at work. I hit no, and then eject the ipod from itunes, so I can play my music and have it charging.

Anything that uses a propietry method of music transfers sucks, IMHO.

I have an Digitalway/MPIO FL100... worked fine for about 12 months, now I have to sacrifice small children to get music on to it. Even has trouble reading SD cards

Oh well, I hate the kids in my neighbourhood anyway

I don't know about you but I usually set my iPod to manual update instead of automatic. I don't have to worry about music wipeage between PCs and Macs.

Also, following KMan's suggestion helps, too.

I still use a goddam portable CD player, for Christ's sake. I don't need eighteen thousand songs to dig through to find the one I want. And I only have ~100 megs of mp3s on my HD at home anyway. You kids are weird.
