This is absolutly wrong...
There are plenty to child molesters who actually realize that they are ill, and try everything to live a normal live. They even turn themselves over to the police if they start feeling the 'urge'.

Of course there has to be a list and they also need strict supervision by the police and doctors. But by making this list public, you basicly make their lives a living hell.

And think about it, those known to the police are actually the ones you least have to fear, and a list can't protect you from the ones unkown.

How would you feel if you are trying your best to fight an illness, and all your neighbours demonize you and are (openly) hostile to you (maybe even violent). I wouldn't even be suprised if they have to live in constant fear, that some selfrighteous bastard thinks it is a good idea to beat them to death.

Sorry, soon as you molest a child, you give up all rights not to be demonized. I personally would want to know for certain who to keep my children safe from. I know there will always be unknowns, but having some that I know for sure would make me feel that much safer. Here's for making a national list.

Poop: As a parent, I'm VERY careful about demonizing these people, its too easy to demonize them all, just as its too easy to demonize everyone who takes drugs or drinks alcohol or smokes cigarettes or beleives in satanism and so on.

I think Paedophiles, much like many 'threats' to 'normal society' are demonized way out of proportion because they are one of the latest things the media is blowing out of proportion. Much like the Aids scare, the killer bees scare and so on. Yes they are problems, but they will never be solved by simple minded hatred.

I bought the Woodsman the other day simply because im curious to see a rationale representation of this disease for once rather than listen to the media fueled backwardness that is all too common.

That said, I couldnt help but feel that it was a gross misuse of money on the part of the british government to spend a million pounds on setting up paedophiles who are released from jail with new homes and identities.

They don't spend that much helping the recovery of the families that are destroyed or ruined by the actions of paedophiles and as always, the curiously misplaced duality of the law system doesnt sit comfortably with me.

However, this still does not encourage me to swing blindly toward writing them all off as monsters, thats not going to sort anything.

There are plenty of ways neighbours can make your life living hell, without doing anything illegal. And most the time the police will also look away in smaller cases, because after all these are convicted child molesters, and police officers have children too.

I completly agree with Rorshach though.

If any of you ever have one of your children molested, and get to watch the havok it wreaks on their entire being, for the rest of their life, I think you might sing a different tune. I know a couple of friends who it has happened to, and they are completely different people than they would have turned out to be had some sick person not messed with their lives.

No mercy from me. I'd give em the chair if it were my choice, putting up with snotty neighbors is too good for those clowns.

One part of me would shove a knife up their asses but another part wonders if all this 'watching' really stops a child molester from driving to the other side of town to cruise schools for kids. I also wonder how you move on from this sort of thing when you're reminded constantly.

Not many within a mile thank goodness, and I live in an apartment building with A LOT of little kids in it. Iv'e known about the megan's Law site for a while. Often molestors, begat other molestors,as those that do it, often had it doen to them. Not the majority of them, that have issues for the rest of their lives, especially in regards to intimacy of any kind (as most molestors are relatives or family friends). However that's no excuse for the Molestor's behavior. Also there are those that are just attracted to little kids the way other people are attracted to Jessica Alb, and the "generative instincts" of the human are very powerful influences an all manners of behavior. I am of the opinion that if they are that messed up, that have no right of return to society and should either be permanently housed, or killed. You can't repair their sort of mental damage.

I doubt that would work, if you castrate older stallions they don't change that much... you have do do it before a certain age, otherwise you will not have that much effect on the 'sex-instinct'.

I don't agree with letting people out unless they can and will function 100% in normality, anything less is a risk and they are not "cured" of their illness and need further treatment. 99.9% of these people need treatment for the rest of their lives and they need to NOT be around childern. This catch and release maneuver is what really disturbs me. Oh we'll just let the neighbors know so they can be careful. We don't need to make sure the molesters are well before sending them back into the wild.

Something tells me most of these sicko's would find a way to screw up little kids even without a wang...

On the flip side MAYBE if a would-be molester sees the rough treatment a elder molester gets it would "detour" them. On second thought I bet it would either make them suppress the "urge" until they snap and do more damage. Or they would take extra lengths to not be discovered, such as kill the child instead of destroying the rest of their lives.

If you would lock up anyone who isn't 100% mentally normal, you could basicly lock up 10% (just a guess, probably more) of the population... that is just not practical (and way to expensive).

Otherwise... the USA already has the highest percentage of people in prisons world wide. Just a few numbers:

Number of people in prisons: 2.131.180 (June 30th 2004); that is 726 of every 100.000. This is the highest absolute and relative(!) number worldwide.
And this number is constantly rising, in contrast to the number of crimes (from 1993 to 2003 more than half reduced)
It is exspecially bad with black males between 25-29, of which 12.6% are in prison.

So maybe locking up everyone is the 'american way of life' for the 'land of the free'

You do realize that jail is already so bad for sex offenders that go after children that the conventional 'wisdom' you pickup on the inside is to kill the victim so they can't tell who did it(I've heard this second hand, I'm not a sex offender).

One guy I went to school with and actually lived with for a year is on the Illinois sex offender list now. Look at that smiling face! Was interesting to have a dozen or so cops bust into the apartment looking for him.

This is correct, this isn't avout Sex, as much as it is about power, as a number of them are impotent, and use "foreign objects" to abuse their victims with. Chemicla castration may help in a few cases, but it's not a solution.

I believe they are just as much a threat to society as they are a product. While we desperately search for what we assume may be a cure of this "illness", we overlook the potential cause of its prominence and methods in which we can prevent it from escalating. Children emulate their irresponsible adult role models. On the other hand, this increases the chances of rape from those who unwillingly find attraction from this behavior. Now, this definitely isn't the cause of all sex crimes, some are simply born sick, but it does add fuel to the fire. Today, preteen girls find encouragement from Britney Spears and Lindsey Lohan. Older men find erections from these same figures. THAT is the illness which may spark an uncontrolable urge within them, which further leads to the downward spiral of a sex criminal. In the end, a young innocent victim's life may be altered permanently.

The powerful nurturing and healing properties of human touch has been replaced with fear and sexual fantasy. Children are taught that any body part that does not include the arms, head, and feet is a sexual organ. Parents feel uneasy with the fact their newborns have genitals. Breastfeeding in public is considered shameful. Young girls are persuaded to dress like sluts while their gender is constantly degraded. Grown men find themselves attracted to women who are of illegal age. Porn dominates the internet. All these factors lead to consequences, deviations from nature. The media soaks it up to spread more fear. And the legal system is quick punish those who break boundaries in a society obsessed and fearful of sex, and slow to find ways of prevention. Offenders should be put away for their actions. But the world as a whole should realize that taking them out of society will not cure the disease. The source still parades on.
