[WIP] Stylized Japanese bamboo forest (UE5) — looking for feedback

Hi everyone, first time posting here.

I'm working on a stylized Japanese bamboo forest in UE5, inspired by traditional Japanese art (ukiyo-e and Japanese painting). I'm going for a soft, painterly look with a lot of atmospheric haze — distant elements fading into the mist.

24-hour lighting (GIF): one Blueprint slider takes the lighting from morning through day, evening, and night.

Still on my to-do list:

  1. Ground — it's just a landscape material right now. Next I'll make grass foliage and scatter it.
  2. Bamboo — this is a placeholder for now. I'll add some bend to the trunks, add more variation to the leaves and between plants, then redo the placement.
  3. Depending on how it looks, I might add some ground rocks too.
  4. I'm also planning to add bamboo fences.

Any honest feedback is welcome — good or bad, whatever you notice. Thanks!

Welcome to Polycount. This looks like a fun project!

First thing is I would recommend posting JPG instead of PNG. I’m looking at this post on my phone, and those images take foreeeeeeever to load.

Do you have some references of what you’re aiming towards? It would be great to share a few key images you like.

Thanks for the warm welcome! And that's a good tip on the JPGs — really helpful. I've already swapped them out, so they should load faster now.

As for references, I've been collecting some Japanese-painting-style and ukiyo-e-style art, plus some photos of real bamboo forests. I'll pick a few and post them soon.
