How to retypologise collectly

I'm uncertain about the best approach for clean typology and would appreciate any guidance on which one is accurate. I'm currently working with an arch and need to create a hole, so I used the boolean method and added 16 edges. which one is correct if any?

This may depend.. top and right with additional edges; inside bevel via control loops could be "sharper"..

Thanks, so i guess you are allowed triangles in the mesh, as i thought clean mesh should be 4 sided.

A mesh gets triangulated when imported into an engine anyhow. The reason why meshes are retopoed mostly in quads is that it is easier to edit them while working on them. But, there are parts of a mesh that just need a few tris and that is ok. The first example of your post uses elongated quads which as a rule you should avoid cause they cause anomalies.

it is also useful as some tools, e.g. those involved in subdividing and skinning, work "better" on quad meshes...
