I've been working on a cool retro-futuristic environment that I call Data Integrity! I tried to build my skills with environmental storytelling, real-time VFX, and using an optimization-focused pipeline with decals and a shared trim sheet/atlas. I'm having a lot of fun trying out and learning new things, so if you have any feedback for me, I'd love to hear it! My ArtStation -- Data IntegrityLong after the apocalypse, the last bastion of humanity endures. Using old and battered, but resilient, hard drives, humans store every scrap of information about how these machines work. They're working hard to reverse engineer these deadly robots. Using data collected from downed and salvaged drones, their research is going well. They're on the precipice of a breakthrough when something attacks, causing a chain of events that corrupts their data. Sparks fly, drives squeal, and chaos ensues. The hard drives still spin, but they’re corrupted. They store useless and convoluted binary. They have to start again.
The biggest problem for me is that the effects are overpowering everything else, so I can’t really focus on anything but the sparks. And the spinning camera makes it harder on top. I would suggest toning those both way down.
The materials have a nice amount of grunge, but I can’t tell if there’s much love put into the Roughness, which is where materials really shine (sorry heheh).
I have a bit of a pet peeve with black blacks in lighting, you lose all sense of environment in the shadows. It would be great to see more bounce lighting, get some HDR/IBL in there.
The trim sheets don’t seem to have any bevels or shapes really (especially the normal map) which could help add more depth and definition to the models, and allow them to pick up more from the lighting.

I've been working on a 3d project of a futuristic robot. I'm having a lot of fun crafting this guy. Hope you enjoy!

Keep going, love to see where you go with this!
