so was planning on getting an RTX 4070, costs about £517 brand new. saw one on ebay for about £400. 
do you reckon this is ok for a general work , bit of rendering , running unreal, blender etc
My current 2070 is ok, but getting a bit dated. Will the 4070 have the same connectors/slots?

    The combination of hdmi/display port holes seems to differ a lot but you should get at least 3 - probably 4. Worst case you buy some new cables. 
    I'm not actually sure on the pcie power connectors for those so you want to make sure you have support for those on your PSU

    You'll certainly see a performance improvement -if you can work now you'll be able to work more with the 40 series. Unreal and substance painter will absolutely go faster

    I upgraded from a 2080ti to a 5070ti just recently. Can't speak for the 4070 but the 5-series uses a new (to me) power connector. An adapter was provided with the GPU however.

    No speedup noticeable in Blender at least. Apparently I wasn't GPU constrained in that application previously.

    yeah I worked with a 4070 on my last contract and it was certainly a lot faster than my 2070, even over parsec.
    Normal maps baked in zbrush alomost instantly
    will do some more research first before committing though. my pc has a very small case which might cause issues

    i think the silly 12pin power connector is mostly used on the 80/90 . it's likely to be 2 standard 8-pin  pcie connectors on the 4070 but you do want to check that. There's a lot of horror stories around using adaptors for the 12pin so I'd probably be wanting a PSU with a dedicated cable for it

    And yeah, I had a new power supply that shipped with a matching cable. Never got to test out the adapter. Dunno what the previous generation might be like.

    on the side lines if you got a chance and trying to "import" or whatever you got to do, to get this guy to make a 4090 with 48gbs of vram that (for me) would've been to go to if i had the options available to me to get any gpu's, idk your budget for a new one, i got a new 3060ti still plastic wrapped from i think newegg legit so i was happy with that, coming from 2 Radeon 5750's (when that was  athing) so yeah decent upgrade for me. 

    Whomever got 4090's congrats seems to be the spot to be sitting in for a long while, think that channel also has the solution for the problematic 80/90 pin plugs, if you have 2 i'd keep one at the sidelines until the 1st expired.  Let us know how it goes, i do not know what the price of the 48gb version would be, also not much traction to that video, i think many should check it out, eye opening situations.

    a better google suggests that the 4070 doesn't use the 12pin - 4070 the super-ti(or whatever) does since that's actually a 4080. 

    it doesn't preclude the manufacturer deciding to put one on there though.  As soon as the card gets past about 400W peak you're asking for trouble on 2 8-pins (150w each + 150w from the PCI slot) so a factory overclock could make that quite a good idea

    i thin i mentioned before that my power connector on my 2070 wasn't quite connected ie not pushed in fully. so for a year I was having
    intermittent freezes/system crashes :/

    With a12pin you'll find out you did that a lot sooner cos it'll catch fire .
