I'll grab some insight from this pic of an aussie outback classic "Bull/Buffalo Catcher" for use on my own Mad Max/Dystopian design - lol might even add some sort of trailer too.



My entry is just a thanks of gratitude, to all those hard surface artists that inspired me over the years with kickass art so many cheers. Aside from military sims/shooters also liked playing open world survival games their similarity of aesthetic really caught my attention, for instance DAYZ, Rust or TLOU which usually turns out to be pretty fun engaging sessions especially when playing with mates. 

At the moment still sorting through specs I'll work under probably in a weeks time will have something nailed down, anyway will try to push myself with this project and see what comes of it.

    ah, DayZ them where the days, such an interesting game when it came out and intense when solo. 

    Awesome tribute piece can't wait to see how you tackle your idea, looking forward to it. 

    Image is a great reference and that trailer does add a bit of something, i can see a "dual" solo trailer, like those motor cycles more toward the backside though, type of style to it, just a random thought i felt like sharing that might spark some interest.

    AUSSIE OUTBACK JACKS APOC VEHICLE SALES

    1990 Land Rover 'Bushranger' 110 6x6 (Ex Army Surplus)

    Righto ladies 'n gents this old analog bus maybe a bit rough around her edges but she can still pack a punch for all your dystopian end of days need. She'll pretty much kick the buggers where it hurts guaranteed, as follows:

    • IED resistant/anti ballistic inner Kevlar monocoque survival shell (mod)
    • Anti ballistic windscreen + forward (x4 personnel) cell passenger side windows (mod)
    • Iszuzu 4BD1T (turbo) diesel power plant (update)
    • Roof mounted crew served weapon position, both front and rear (update)
    • Mid cabin (x8  x5 personnel) fighting positions, outward facing seating with armoured side firing ports (mod) (update)
    • Multiple role grenade launchers/dischargers
    • Communication systems VHF - HF radios
    • Complete set of IR headlamps
    • Six Four15000 lumen mounted LED spotlights (mod) (update)
    • Full Vehicle ROP (Roll Over Protection)

    CONCEPT ART:
    Lol drawn freehand roughly what I had in mind whilst leaning heavily upon design hints from the ADFs retired 'Bushranger' 110 logistic light vehicle fleet.

    Weighted Normals modeling
    Hybrid Trim x1 texture sheet workflow
    2K resolution at 250 512px/m TD (update)
    Showcased UE4

    BLOCKOUT:
    While sketching a basic outline thinking about an optimal UVW strategy, might even attempt generating alongside this primary background prop cramming in 3 other objects as well. For example a light cargo tandem axle trailer and x2 hybrid stealth SF E-Bikes that would usually provide mission planned reconnaissance combined route over-watch duties in the real world, although of course subject to contest rules if allowed or for that matter time constraints?

    I like everything even the post formatting.
    Cool to see some irl drawing, seems to work out and yeah, its probably better to practice more of that since we do not know what will happen and we can at least do stuff outside of the "network of connectivity...".

    Down to see what you do with this, i like the little additions, "little trailer, bikes, other ideas+".

    I'd say its fine, people put a lot of stuff on the top/in rack of their vehicles/trailers so why not.
    So neat, i like this, carry on.

    I think what I'm attempting relatively speaking is following what blew my mind 15yrs ago, when Tor Frick created his scifi lab in UDK using just a single low res texture, so I'm basically making more with less....erm' hopefully    :#

    Continuing to block stuff out and shuffling placeholders around to find a balance without making this scene look to busy.

    I'll start working on the bikes later on once I've done modeling base mesh for these big assets first.

    Still having a blast faffing around  :p  

    Nearly done modeling the exterior, I'm now only adding detail that'll be observable and make sense to actually make. Probably won't have time for my dirt bikes, would've been nice but needs must since for me at least be little tight to UV, texture then render in engine so we'll get bit of a shift on. Hmm...thinking on it might even have a crack implementing UPBGE instead of UE4 in an effort to streamline things just a tad rather than skipping between apps rigmarole.

    Really wanted to see some bike ideas & was looking forward to it, addressed an extension suggestion, might run a poll nearing the deadline and give it a week or so and let people speak about it all then and if it passes we could extend things so people can polish their stuff, i do not see why not.  For myself the only reason is i would rather see what every one envisioned then a rushed uncompleted entry.

    Super tight as kanga said i like the colors and it is standing out a lot more now.

    Yeah cheers I'd voted for an extension, had under estimated this project's scope just modeling at my work-rate both exterior and interiors let alone designing stuff from scratch so maybe end of the month or sooner whichever comes first?!

    A small update nearing end of pushing/pulling verts, I mean at this point I'm really hanging out to UV - texture things.

    I am liking the little bike also, this is a kick ass piece for sure, digging the ref layout.

    Ok busy wrapping up this project, had given up the ghost trying to follow my brief I'd initially penned when Brawl2 kicked off back in May. Anyway so just in the last three wks decided to pivot across making a 3D concept....well sort of, that seems like currently it's predominately morphed into something else entirely but I still wanted to finish because not only time and effort spent had actually a blast working on it, however personally real lesson learnt (note to self) perhaps next time best to plan out things before diving in.

    Update:
    Using Ucupaint plus Kitops for texturing, the latter is a tri-planar workflow that enables materials to be applied without UV mapping, more about it here whereas ucu comes shipped with blender. As far as I'm aware based on layer painting functionality in a similar vein too SPainter or Photoshop which I'll probably use to create grunge/dirt weathering....etc

    So cool man, i like the idea of the uv approach.
    I got a page not found comment when trying to view the link posted, otherwise a Ghost was going to ride these things? ("given up the ghost", neat little drop in there, also hang in there.)  great to see the vision you had for this coming together. 

    Still time to get it in, i just didn't want to risk it since i am running into some oddity, i am suspecting on site with trying to upload images or attach them with the failed message so had to use external means to post just a heads up if it happens to you..

    I might also add for me personally Braw2 has been great certainly stepped outside my comfort zone for sure so congrats to everyone else that entered the art is amazing plus take a bow yourself for putting this comp together in the first place, job well done. 

    ADDENDUM:
    Putting some finishing touches to my entry atm and final rendered shots inengine I'll post later today or evening they're mainly exteriors although will continue to work on the interiors which may take another week to do, I've actually found out is more work than the rest of this project combined over last few months but hey 'if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right'   =)

    umm...yeah life's unpredictable stuff got in the way  :/

    But I'm back at it today will have wip shots uploaded shortly albeit if those that didn't make the cut-off are still allowed to post here since as I understand this comp is complete and in all fairness to artists that did?

    Otherwise I'll start a separate thread in the 3D Art sub forum cos main goal importantly remains to finish it also there's a ton of interior work left todo on my modified project, now a realistic detailed 3D concept dystopian vehicle.

    oh what da heck, i guess you just didn't want to post an incomplete entry cause of the interior?

    Awe man, but yeah for me i am okay with everyone coming back and posting their completed stuff, when they wanted & when they felt it was "good enough to post".

    If Eric doesn't have an issue with it, however perhaps through the "time-frame", of visiting the site old habits might kick in and peeps would forget to check this section of the forums? 

    Otherwise, just be sure to post it where it gets traction also, perhaps in the w.a.y.w.o.t. (what are you working on thread).

    Did check that link and i do agree the next level up is a challenge & a half from any processes of lower range works to higher range works.  Going from either i think for either is a configuration to achieve for sure.

    About final entries date:
    OOph, i felt the contest had gone on so long we had to end it eventually otherwise i would've made a new poll for a new extension but i felt it would look bad and decided it had to end eventually.  
    (that is why i had an "endless mode", option but it was unrealistic.)

    Did this brawl 2 thing because i am a little peeved it didn't happen when more peeps where interested, but can't expect everyone to be available, the good ol'e days huh, i decided not to enter that 1st one, sucks to miss out on it.
    Now we can say it "did" happen.

    Thanks for the kind words, again i appreciate everyone that entered, commented, and even viewed this section while it was going on.  tbh my entry also is not complete for me but had to pull the plug it is a bit stressful to remember to keep paying attention to this so kind of glad a little bit, its over @ this stage now to manage the judges section.
