Hey! I don't know too much about fighting games, however during my search, I stumbled upon this guy Sodom and super liked his look:

Not sure yet about exact technique, leaning more towards low-spec, perhaps just hand painted.

Target engine: Unity? Rigged and posed. 

As a first step, I want create a low poly blockout and paint/ photobash on top to explore.
Possible directions: demonic/mutated, female, puppet/action figure

Has been some time since I last did a character challenge, let alone finish one, exciting :D

    Update! Was able to create a blockout of a vanilla Sodom.
    Perhaps I shall make some renders and apply some Mad Max.

    Found some time to do some Brawling. Brought the current skeletal mesh into Unity and applied some blended Mixamo animations for testing. Currently using simply vertex colors, perhaps I'll keep it that way and layer some hand-painted textures on top? I think it would be cool to be able to switch outfits. Speaking of, I should come up with some, still pretty vanilla :lol: Well, the experiments will continue :-B Thanks for stopping by!

    Awe man that little shimmy shake is doing it for me, so much fun.  (keep chuckling to myself with that idling, its damn near perfect.)

    Minimal Progress

    Since last update, I tweaked the model some. Tried different poses to get better result with the humanoid/anim retarget of Unity. I now use a T-Pose with mostly straightened limbs. With the A-Pose, some rotations were slightly off. I created hand poses to blend on top. Perhaps it would be best to create a custom pose in the end. I'll see.

    Also, I started painting a greyscale texture to use in the shader. I need to check here that it works at various distances. In regards to readability, hatching (if used, might go more bold) might be something to do in the shader and the line weights should be consistent in the end.

    Loving the direction, your choice on colors otherwise style seems legit, it is your entry and vision and i am here for it.  Great update!

    Hello, still alive though time has been running through my fingers.

    Managed to do some pushes in some different aspects:
    • Experimented some with a shader in Unity to get a black and white look
    • Adjusted the model some, though very roughly, mostly mapping to parts of the existing textures. Of course, added skulls and spikes :P
    • Built out the Unity scene with some limited functionality as well. I used this orbit camera script

    Edit: Took a few potato screenshots, but hopefully those show - yay looks like they do!

    love it, put a smile on my face, so ultra strong "blacks" but otherwise super cool, i couldn't only see the "gif" in question by fake quoting your post as if i was going to reply to it otherwise epic update, feel free to express your interest or dis-taste on an extension within the threads section.
    Cool shader works.

    Sorry I failed you Sodom :disappointed_relieved: Once again I lost control over my 'work-life' balance (lol) and effectively, big challenges continue to kick my butt :pensive:

    For now, I'll have to put this on my pile of shame/ unfinished projects and come back to it one day to finish. One thing I take from this, it's that I really dig this style/ rendering and can see how I'll explore it for future personal projects.

    I want to say many, many thanks for organizing this! Also thanks to everybody who stopped by this thread and big ups to all other participants who dared joining and shared their journey!

    Though a rush job putting this together, but i agree that i am glad this finally happen also.

    Will be waiting for any updates on this, you've done great, i would be happy with the work that was done & that rendering is kick ass.  

    I was so hoping to see this one but its fine life does happen to all of us, no one should feel down about not completing, it happens.
