The BRAWL² Tournament Challenge has been announced!

It starts May 12, and ends Sept 12. Let's see what you got!

We're looking for an Unreal artist experienced with pathtracing.

Hi, we're working on 'Blood&clay' https://bloodandclay.com/bnc.php and we're looking into transfering the rendering from Arnold to Unreal. If you are an UE pro and skilled in the render features: We want to test UE with this shot( scroll down to 'first shot'). What I want to know first: will it work?
- we have scanned meshes- large polycount, 'dirty' meshes
- high textures resolutions- everything in UDIM layout.
- shaders needs to be converted. Is there already MaterialX in UE.? Then it would be: Converting Arnold to MaterialX-export that to UE.
- groom. We used Yeti and there is plugin for Yeti in UE- does it work out of the box, renders fine?
- icing on the cake would be: Integration into Prism-pipeline. We use Prism2 as our pipeline tool( https://prism-pipeline.com/de/) and it supports UE. But: does a shot assembly works with our assets?

if you like our project and if you are smart, sharp thinking artist, who loves to dive into technical stuff and find nifty soultions: let's talk.

Thank you
Martin

Hi. I like your project and I'm interested in collaboration if possible. I am not a UE guy so I can't really help with that but I have a lot of experience (20 years) with many rendering techniques and plugins so I was wondering why you want to switch from Arnold?  Maybe there is a better alternative than UE. I mainly use 3dsMax and it's plugins.  I am also a generalist 3D artist if you need help with anything else.  Thank you and good luck.

Thank you. The reason why we want to test UE is speed and costs. I believe - without proper testing with an actual shot pure speculation I know- that UE can render a frame much faster(there are a lot of other aspects than speed, sure but let's simplify) than Arnold. I rendered CUs with much hair and SSS and got  rendertimes like 40min/frames. No way I can render the movie with my 4 old render nodes with Arnold.
We will be in production for a really long time. No way we could afford licenses for that und unfortunately Autodesk has no interest of software sponsoring.
We did our groom with Yeti. I didn't see this in the beginning, but this narrows down the choice of the render engine quite a lot.

Do you have a website or a showreel?
    Thank you.

Danke for the reply. I am mainly a lighting and rendering guy, I love technical challenges/optimization the most and that is why I am interested in your project. When you mentioned rendering times, my eyes lit up.  Anyway, my portfolio has archviz and videogame related 3d since I used to work for a large videogame corp.  https://www.artstation.com/f50percent      Also if you wish to talk more directly , you can find me on discord as well, under easyduzzit.
I have some ideas that we could discuss if you are interested.
    Best day to you!
